In this time I will discuss about news items text. Before I explain it, I want to ask you, do you like watching news in television? Or do you like reading newspaper? If you like doing all those things, it means that you are familiar with news item text, but what is news item text? Many students do not know what exactly it is. Although, this text is learned in senior high school or vocational high school, most of them still get difficulties if they are asked to write news item text.

Before you try to make a news item text, it is better if you know first "what is news item text?"

-  Definition of News Item Text
News item is a text which informs readers about events of the day. The events are considered newsworthy or important.

It means if there is an important event that should be known by many people, then this event deserves news. Well, the news text is called the news item text. However, if there are events that people do not deserve, then they are not definitely worth to be news.

-  Purpose of News Item Text
News Item Text is used to inform readers about events of the day which are considered newsworthy or important.
Or
– To inform the readers about newsworthy or important events of the day.
– To present information the readers about newsworthy or important events of the day.

-  Generic Structure of News Item Text
1.  Main Events / Newsworthy event(s): it recounts the event in summary form.
2.  Elaboration / Background event(s): they elaborate what happened, to whom, in what circumstance.
3.  Resource of Information (Source) : it contains comments by participants in, witnesses to and authorities expert on the event.

-  Language Feature of News Item Text
a.  Focusing on circumstances (using a simple language in writing the text)
b.  Using saying verbs: “….”, She said, informed, told, reported.
c.  Sometimes at the beginning of news, the scene is mentioned : Jakarta – … .. / Kuala Lumpur – …
d.  Using Past tense in explaining news events. But if it is a fact that until now still happen or still in the form of fact, then can use simple present tense.
e.  Short, telegraphic information about story captured in headline
f.  Using adverbs: time, place and manner.
g.  Uses of material processes to retell the event

ANCIENT ARTIFACT TO BE RETURNED TO INDONESIA 

     Sanggurah Stone,  or more commonly the Minto stone,  is expected to be returned to its home in Indonesia from Scotland.
     The historical artifack,  which originated from Malang,  East java weighs around three tons and is two meters tall. It is held in Roxburghshire, Scotland. It has been part of a family collection belonging to the former British Governor General of india,  Lord Minto,  after being presented to him by british Governor Sir Thomas Stamford Raffles. The stone tablet bears an ancient inscription dated 982 AD along with the name of a Javanese king,  Sri Maharaja Rakai Pangkaja.
     "This stone is an important historical artifact and crucial source of information.  It contains the history of the Mataram kingdom,"  Culture and Tourism Ministry director general of history and archeology Hari Untoro Drajat announced at a media. The return of the artifact was facilitated by the hasyim Djojohadikusumo Foundation(YKHD).  The stone will be placed the National Museum.
